The Gleanors Food Bank is asking assistance from the Troy Democrats for their Annual BE A HUNGER HERO FOR KIDS Food Drive. When School is out for the Summer, more than 250,000 children in southeast Michigan go without the free or reduced-fee school lunches they rely on for their daily nutrition. Gleaners wants these children to have a happy summer, not a hungry one. Their goal is to provide 2 million meals for kids and their families during the summer months, when kids are most vulnerable to hunger.
They have asked the TDC to Volunteer 2 groups, with each group consisting of Two Drivers and Four Walkers, to pick up food donations at the door step of Troy Residents homes. The pick up day will be June 25, 2009. That day, pick ups will be in Troy, Birmingham and Royal Oak.
So, get your teams together and RSVP by the next TDC General Membership Meeting, July 12, 2009. RSVP to Ed Spillers, Blue Tiger Chair, at 248-854-7963 or email community@troydemocrats.org.
Come celebrate the power of giving back, at Big Brothers, Big Sister Annual Bigs and Littles Picnic, Saturday August 1st at Raintree Park. The TDC has agreed to be Game Captains for this event. Please RSVP to Ed Spillers, Blue Tiger Chair, by the next TDC General Membership Meeting. Call 248-854-7963 or email community@troydemocrats.org
