Birmingham Bloomfield Democratic Club, Thursday, May 13, 7:30 p.m. 

Candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor, Virg Bernero, Lansing mayor, will speak at the Birmingham Bloomfield Democratic Club meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 13. The meeting will be at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, 1000 Cranbrook Road at Woodward in Bloomfield Hills.  

There will also be local candidates running in the primary election August 3, 2010 Aaron Bailey of Royal Oak, candidate for Michigan State Senate from the 13th district (Troy, Royal Oak, Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham), Julie Candler, candidate for State Representative for the 40th district (Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Keego Harbor and Orchard Lake), and Daniel Murray, candidate for County Commission in Birmingham/Bloomfield. 

It is important for us to have a large audience so please come and bring your friends!

  • MDP Chair Mark Brewer will speak on Targeted Races in 2010.
  • Michael McGuinness, Oakland County Democratic Party Chair will join Dan Fingas, SEIU organizer and former campaign manager & field coordinator, and Jon Byrd, Calhoun County Democratic Party Chair  on Direct Voter Contact - Theory & Practice.
  • Dr. Jim Kruer (Justice Caucus Co-chair) & a special guest will present workshops on messaging and fundraising.
  • A panel discussion will feature LGBT elected officials.
  • Ferndale Mayor Craig Covey will speak on what cities and communities can do to be inclusive of LGBT citizens & Cool Cities.
  • Learn to use new media (internet, blogging, facebook, twitter) from Julielyn Gibbons.
  • Michael McGuinness (OCDP) & Mitch Rivard (MSU College Dems) speak on Building the future majority: helping young people create the politics of tomorrow.
  • Tour the Democratic Archive and learn about campaign visibility with Doug Kelley, Washtenaw County Dems.
  • Learn to attract, engage and keep volunteers. Other workshops de-mystify campaign finance law and voting rights/voter protection.
  • Paul Stevenson, Justice Caucus Co-Chair addresses the future of progressive politics in Michigan.
