Message from Friends of Troy Public Library
Friends
It is very important in the coming weeks to attend City Council meetings as they discuss the fate of the Troy Public Library. Know that while there is a water cooler sense that closing the library is a scare tactic or could never happen, there is no other option being presented by city administration. In talks with council members and some city staff, closure is the end result.
Please, go to the meetings, tell everyone you know to go or contact the council to bring community pressure to bear. The council by city charter must approve the budget by May 10th and there is no going back.
The Friends are going to ask the council to refuse to accept any budget that includes a permanent closure of the Troy Public Library. Join us in telling the council that we want city administration to offer alternative solutions that do not include complete closure.
Council meeting schedule:
Monday April 19 7:30 p.m.--Regular mtg with public comments
Tuesday April 20 7:00 p.m.--Budget mtg to discuss budget specifics including library
Monday April 26 7:30 p.m.--Budget mtg to discuss operating budget
Monday May 3 7:30 p.m.--Budget mtg to discuss capital budget
Monday May 10 7:30 p.m.--Council votes to approve budget
Please come and wear RED to support the library. Keep checking our web site www.friendstpl.org or send us an email to ask how you can get involved. Ask your friends to join the Friends, as there is power in numbers. Don't wait until it is too late. ACT NOW!!!
Also, the Friends group is looking for a few folks to collect signatures in front of the library on Saturday and Sunday for a few hours. The signature is not a petition, it is a signature of support for the FTPL request to City Council to refuse any budget that includes closure of the library.
